I am a Slot Canyon

I am a Slot Canyon

I resemble a slot canyon in both personality and physical appearance. Slot canyons are formed when flood water surges through a hairline crack in a rock and carves away the sandstone, limestone or even granite to form a deep canyon. Slot canyons have varying shades of yellow, orange and tan much like my blond, light brown hair. My experiences are like the river that carves through the sandstone to create the canyon itself. A metaphor for my life, the river is life carving through me, leaving all the bumps and indents and memories that I will have with me forever. One thing I will carry with me forever is all the fun times spent playing in the sun with my sister Paige. I have learned many lessons from Paige. Another feature a slot canyon and I share is the smooth, graceful sides of sandstone. Although I’m not made of sandstone, I am graceful in many other fashions. I am a dancer and have learned how to become graceful and smooth over the course of numerous dance classes. Furthermore, a slot canyon and I share the ability to be hidden from the outside. Often slot canyons cannot be seen from the ground, but nonetheless are beautiful and exciting once inside. I build a thick shell around me, as if to hide me from the outside world. Yet I’m funny and goofy once the shell is cracked. I can be much like a slot canyon in both my rather shy and timid outer shell and the appearance of my blond hair. However, the most definite difference between us is that I try, to some extent, to break out of my timid shell and be exposed to the world; whereas a slot canyon is hidden from the outside world as long as it exists.
